Vrouwelijke revolutie in Oscarland

Vrouwelijke revolutie in Oscarland

“To every woman who gave birth to every taxpayer and citizen of this nation, we have fought for everybody else’s equal rights. It’s our time to have wage equality once and for all and equal rights for women of the United States of America!”

“When I was 16 years old, I tried to kill myself because I felt weird and I felt different and I felt like I did not belong – and now I’m standing here. So I would like for this moment to be for that kid out there who feels like she’s weird or she’s different or she doesn’t fit in anywhere. Yes, you do. I promise you do. Stay weird, stay different, and then when it’s your turn and you are standing on this stage, please pass the same message.”

“In the crayon box I think this is orchid.”

“It is great to speak up, but what I really think is you gotta do something. Those are the people I admire in this business. I started my production company two years ago because I saw six of my favorite actresses fighting over a really crappy role in a movie and I thought, ‘We deserve better. We just do.’ So I set out with the idea that I wanted to develop material that had had strong female leads. And it’s just been a great year. Both movies have been box-office successes, but also critically. The critics have been so supportive. The press has been extraordinary. I think it’s great to have an idea and have it supported in so many ways. Yeah, I feel about that it’s time for change, and people really want it.”

“There is no such thing as best actress, as is evidenced by the performances of my fellow nominees. I am honored to be among you every step of the way,”

“Tonight we celebrate Hollywood’s best and whitest, sorry… brightest.”

“We should talk about suicide out loud.”

“I’d like to first thank the documentary community. It’s an incredible joy to work among people who support each other so deeply, risk so much and do such incredible work. We don’t stand here alone, the work we do that needs to be seen by the public, is possible through the great organizations that support us. The disclosures that Edward Snowden revealed don’t only expose a threat to privacy but to democracy itself. When the most important decisions being made affecting all of us are made in secret, we lose our ability to check the powers that control. Thank you to Edward Snowden for his courage, and for the many other whistleblowers, and I share this with Glenn Greenwald and other journalists who are exposing truth.”
